Renault Modus (2004 - 2012)
Initial
Great to drive c*** to maintain
OK bought it because I got a bad back as a car its great its full of electronic gadgets and cubby holes and has the triptic seat mines a 1.6 auto ,29.6 around town 40+ on a run ,reliable ,but if you work on your own car its not for you you need to be a gynecologist to work on the engine /gearbox ,you need expensive diagnostic equipment to access the computers ,the auto transmission has a fluid counter that basicly checks the run time for the fluid its linked to a condition sensor that checks the viscosity of the fluid ,even if you manage to just top up the fluid you will need to adjust the counter ,if you change the fluid it needs to be reset or it will flag up limp mode .
They are fitted with a dephaser when it goes its going to cost appx £120 plus fitting + a new can belt /water pump ,you can't just fit new rear discs because you have to replace the wheel bearings and ABS sensor rings ,if you need to replace a headlight bulb you have to take the front of the car off ,
Electric steering is going to cost over a £1200 at the dealers but you can get it cheaper else where ,everything on Renaults is encoded .
That said its one of the best smaller cars iv had ,if you own a Renault your best friend is YouTube and the forums ,I paid £1500 for mine 1 owner and near perfect condition everything works as it should and dispute it being difficult to work on iv grown to like the little car .
One tip with renault automatics always change the fluid at 30,000 miles and get the counter reset it will save you a fortune !
