Nissan Qashqai (2014 - 2021)
1.3 Dig-T 140 N-Connecta 5dr
Gets the job done.
This is my 2nd QQ, I owned a Mk1 from 2009 to 2016 with no issues whatsoever.
The QQ appeals to families, but is also great for singleton's with an "active" lifestyle. There's enough space for mountain bikes to be loaded with the wheels in place, if that's your sort of thing.
The small 1.3 litre engine is surprisingly flexible and has more than enough pull, even when carrying 4 people plus luggage. Fuel economy also deserves praise, I average around the 42mpg mark which is predominantly stop / start town driving. It's also a quiet engine, especially when cruising in 6th gear, so long trips are a relaxing experience, the supple ride adding to the comfort factor.
Ownership costs are compelling for a relatively big car. Insurance, tax and servicing comparable to standard "C" segment hatchbacks like the Golf or Focus.
A good solid all-rounder that gets the job done, there's loads on the road so it doesn't exactly stand out (although it's a handsome car), which may put some potential buyers off.
If I was pushed to find a negative, it would be the autohold function which applies the brakes when you come to a stop, and releases when you drive off. It's a useful feature in stop / start traffic, however if you don't give it enough gas before pulling off, then it's quite easy to stall at times.
