Split personality...

I bought this car after having the life scared out of me in the snow by my much loved 350z. I was initially drawn to the car's size; the 3rd row of seats being useful occasional berths for my young relatives, without completely obliterating the load bay.

Driving the vehicle on a daily basis was a pleasure. Its diesel powerplant was reasonably refined and delivered very strong acceleration on the motorway and when overtaking on A roads. The seats are very comfortable, and the various toys fitted as standard make long journeys that bit more bearable. No complaints about the fuel consumption either; depending on my right foot, it has returned in and around 40 to 45 mpg on longer journeys. Around town, it hasn't been particularly ruinous to run either.

So, handsome, spacious, swift, comfortable and I havent spent the GDP of a small nation running it. I must love it, right?

Wrong.

18000 miles later, it has been back with the dealer 9 times. A litany of Engine management, fuel pump and DPF problems, and its new trick is going into limp mode on intermediate length motorway journeys. It's becoming hard to trust, and I'm beginning to resent the monthly finance payments.

That said, my local Mitsubishi dealer has been fantastic, and I can recommend Mitsubishi's recovery service wholeheartedly. I haven't talked to too many people who've had problems with their outlander or any of its ugly French relatives. I would love to recommend it, really, as I think mine was probably built at 5 to 5 on a Friday, but be careful.
