A practical but fun car once you figure out how to disable annoying features
The last MG I had the pleasure to own and drive was an old MGF convertible with manual gears, a basic but fantastic sports car that sadly due to disabilities I had to sell three years ago. The deciding factor for me when looking for an SUV was purely because I trust the MG brand. I have not been disappointed in fact very pleasantly surprised at how much fun it is to drive after a few days of getting used to driving after a long break I decided to see just what the car could do. I expected it to be sluggish due to automatic transmission but no sluggishness here at all. I can Chuck it around the bends and in and out of tight spots just as well as any smaller car. I was surprised at how responsive it is just give it some welly and off it goes and a bonus for me is there’s no slow pull away like I’ve had with some automatics when at a roundabouts etc… that was once once my hubby figured out that turning off the eco button stopped the engine switching off every time I stopped I don’t want to wait for the engine to start again to pull away (personally I think that’s dangerous or maybe I’m just an impatient woman). The suspension is superb especially on the horrendous pot holed country lanes where we live it’s like being in a limousine. The finish inside is also superb all leather and nothing that looks cheap and nasty. It’s strange not having an old fashioned handbrake but got used to not feeling around for my handbrake after a few days I get where the button that replaces the handbrake is now. The infotainment screen is a good size it’s like having an iPad set into the dash plus it’s easy to navigate around the controls. I have to be honest there are several features that I’ve disabled for example the loud bleep that tells me I’m changing lanes I’m not a middle lane hugger and I kinda know when I’m changing lanes! The aforementioned feature is a nightmare on country roads as it goes off as soon as you’re in spitting distance of a hedge twig and I don’t need a beep when I’m going up a bank to let a tractor get by. The satnav is very clear but the voices drive me crazy especially if you’ve got two or three roundabouts close together coming up - it’s like she’s having a nervous breakdown. So beeps and voices turned off I am now a happy motorist with a comfortable car that is responsive enough to get me out of trouble if needed. Now to practicalities the boot is just the right size to fit either my wheelchair or mobility scooter in without having to put the back seats down and I would imagine with the seats down we could cart all sorts of stuff home like sacks of compost and timber for our garden. All in all a great car.
