Mercedes-Benz SLK (2011 - 2016)
SLK 200 AMG Sport Blue Eficiency Convertible
Much more fun than the previous BMW 3 series convertibles
After a number of new BMW's to include convertible 3 series models it is nice to get in a car that actually is not now the run of the mill. The latest SLK AMG Auto sport version has paddle shifts and on going from E the normal cruising mode to Sport mode you know your smile tells all. A Z4 was extended road tested and I feel the Merc is the better of the two, the Z4 was far too noisy and the suspension far too hard and unforgiving on our rural roads. Having now done just over 2 thousand miles on a recent long run out and not hanging about (to include motorway) the mpg was very acceptable and you can get over 40 mpg at a more sedate steady rate on a run. It arrived with 18 inch AMG wheels but for Winter driving we have just put it on 17 inch alloys and winter tyres rated to 130 mph. Plenty of room in the boot for weekend bags but of course more limited once the roof is down but lets face it this is the UK. No GPS at this level but there is a slot in glove box for a ex factory one but a map and good navigator thankfully gets me to most places still. All in all a pleasure to own and no mechanical problems so far, a big discount currently if you haggle well.
