Mazda 3 (2004 - 2009)
2.0 TS2 Diesel 5dr Hatchback
Disappointing - DPF problems - Mazda doesn't want to know
Replaced my 6 yr old Leon 2.0 diesel se - initial impression, well appointed interior, and plenty of oomph when pressed. MPG worse than 6yr old Seat - latter was 55+mpg, Mazda lucky if you get over 50mpg. Ride is hard and noisy in comparison, but holds the road well.
Parts expensive (wife backed into post!).
Main gripe is the DPF technology which really stinks - car lost power - diesel had leaked ito sump to a very high level - towed into garage by RAC. Mazda refused warranty as it was my fault for the way I drive!!! I pointed out that I had just returned from Venice 2000 miles mostly motorway - apparently I was going too slow!! I understand that the technology is supposed to clean the soot from the exhaust (ie do a similar job as catlysts in petrol cars). There are many cases of problems with this, and Mazda have changed the technology in the 2009 model.
Overall I hated the manner in which that Mazda Customer support responded to this within warranty incident, and for that reason I cannot recommend Mazda to anyone. The risk is if one does need to approach Mazda UK one cannot be confident that they will be reasonable in the manner they are likely to respond.
So I will mot be buying Mazda again.
