Kia Sorento (2010 - 2015)
KX-2 2.2 CRDi 194 5dr SUV
Reliable; capable; comfortable; underrated; worth a look by anybody.
Reliability is my first requirement of a car. After three Discos I switched to a Defender. That did the trick and I kept it for 11 years (plus a big Volvo estate for the comfortable/quiet bits). Then, after research, I went for a Jeep Grand Cherokee. That was good too and I still miss it but it was a bit thirsty, giving me the same mpg as the Defender. I wanted better mpg but still with the other bits. Last September bought this Kia and after eight months and 8000 miles have to say I'm happy. That's not to say all has been sweetness and light but shall we say the problems proved understandable. I bought from a non-Kia garage and had some gremlins re acceleration, or lack of it, plus, on two occasions, no propulsion at all, yet the engine was still running fine. A Kia dealer computer remap sorted it and there has not been a blip since. We tow a double horse trailer with one horse up - no problem. Most running now is actually local but there are still long trips, including one with six up (4 adults, 2 children)and the big Kia has swallowed it all with ease while still returning over 34 mpg. In fact, every passenger has agreed that the Kia has been best of all. To cap it all, the Kia warranty meant that sorting the gremlins out cost me nothing and, with the car now approaching its 4th birthday, I still have a full three years of manufacturer warranty to rely on. In other words, what the so-called "premium marques" offer from new, except that in their cases it's one year manufacturer and two years dealer warranty. All this plus full leather, climate, cruise etc etc. I'm impressed with Kia. Only niggle is lack of colour choice. The new ones are only offered in black, white or shades of grey. Might be good for a film but not for a car.
