Hyundai i20 (2009 - 2015)
i20 Comfort 1.4 Auto
Disappointing
I bought this car as an ex-demo model from a main dealer near me on a very good offer. I have however been very disappointed with the car for the following reasons:
1) Auto gear box - This is the worst gear box I've ever had to drive with - It will drop gear at the drop of a hat throwing you back. Dealer has told me this auto kick down can't be adjusted. It also sometimes slips when pulling away resulting in lurching. I'd avoid all auto versions of this car. Only positive to this gear box is that it is really smooth when changing gear for such a small engine.
2) Aircon - Virtual failed after only 18 months. Told by dealer I need it recharged. My last Peugeot still worked fine for over 3 years without fading and that was 3 years old when purchased.
3) Interior - Scratches with the lightest touch.
4) Economy - I get 35Mpg around town and 45Mpg on the motorway - not bad but nowhere near manufactures specs.
5) Seats don't fold down half as well as my old 206.
6) Paint - Seems to fall off with the slightest knock.
The positives:
1) Engine. The 1.4 is a powerful unit and is quite nippy. Just a shame the gear box lets its down so bad.
2) Price? It was really cheap - I was able to haggle dealer down £30 a month on HP. Would have been 3 year old car from another manufacture.
All in all an ok car but not the 'honda reliability/quality for a budget price' others had told me. Will go for an old Honda next time I think...
