Ford S-MAX (2006 - 2015)
Smax 2.0 TDCI Titanium
Nice drive, but no spare wheel and Starting Problems
I purchased this car for my Wife as she does the school runs with the 3 kids. Normally an Audi or honda fan...but hey needed something for the misses.
Very nice and comfortable and the extra seats in the back works pretty well (but really does limit the boot space when used....)
Very roomy indeed with all seats individually adjustable (apart from the back two). Bluetooth works fine, but not so well with voice dial etc
Very nippy motor for the weight and does handle ok, but not so in the snow....
The car is heavy and as such will eat through the front tyres...I did approx 10,000 on new tyres then had to replace (cost a whopping £200 each, yes each!!!!)
The reverse gear is really dodgy, sometimes doesnt want to come out of reverse even when u select 1st......
Front electric window doesnt want to auto close, parking sensors go funnie for a while then resets itself, alarm error keeps popping up, then disappears, no spare wheel just this nasty filler foam (have no idea why no spare wheel as there is plenty of space in the underside boot that could easily accomodate this....or even under the boot). The boot could do with an additional window opening tailgate, very handy when u have shopping as this could slide everywhere and drop all over the place when u open the main boot..
The worst thing is that these cars nowadays is fully electronic and as such ford will charge u approx £70 squids an hour for just a basic diagnostics check...Almost all aftermarket warranties wont cover this cost and will only cover the specific faulty issue....This can co$t you dearly....Some of the after market warranties just aint worth the paper its printed on...when u make a claim, they need to be informed prior to any of the work to be carried out and even then its specific... Lets say u have a electric window issue, could be anything, nothing major just doesnt auto shut all the time and you could live with it - could take the garage 3-5 hours to diagnose the fault....no problem covered under warranty, think again!!!
Just in case if you have a starting problem with these cars (sometimes starts, then doesnt), its not the battery, glow plugs etc etc......ask the garage to check out the Injectors and fuel filter and the alarm system...as in my case both were pretty clogged up and the normal diagnostics wont show this.....
I actually think the car would be the best 7 seater if these small issues were ironed out. As usual Ford is ford, no wonder i never got one in the first place.....might just try out the verso
