Ford Kuga (2020 on)
ST Line First Edition PHEV
A disaster.....
First of all I’d like to give a general review before I go into specifics. I had the previous Kuga 4WD which I liked so I decided to go with the new one, which is 2WD, this makes a difference, particularly in the wet or cornering it just doesn’t feel as planted on the road without the 4WD which I think it’s actually AWD. If you like the Focus but want more space, go for this. Sound system is good, it’s comfy and good on the motorway. I was getting 80-100mpg before the “issues”. Mine came with the adaptive cruise control and lane keeping. It really is weird to watch it slowing down, speeding up and going round corners on its own and takes some getting used to. Sometimes the collision mitigation will see things that aren’t there putting the brakes on, not good if your holding a drink at the time. Another thing to watch is the ACC for example if your following the car in front and your set at 60 and you go into a 30 if the car in front your following turns off the Kuga will catapult you back up to 60 again as that’s what it’s been set at, not good if your approaching a roundabout. Same with the lane keeping system, get to a corner it doesn’t like and it just gives up and flashes a warning. So a lot of useful features that’s don’t really work as well in the real world as they should
Now to the “issues”
So it’s a hybrid, 35 miles or so in electric only which is great for school runs, shopping trips, short journeys. I had a glorious 6 weeks in the summer where everything worked then the recall notice arrived in the post, don’t charge it due to a fire risk. Outstanding from Ford, a hybrid you can’t charge. MPG dropped from 80 to 30, £500 compensation has been promised from Ford in Oct but now December and nothing so far. It then stopped charging my phone, not a big problem, then it broke down. Called Ford Assistance who jumped started it, and strangely the wireless charging starting working again, fast forward another week and the auto parking systems fails. The dealer says it’s a Ford UK issue, Ford say any problems have to be sorted by the dealer and round in circles we go. This car is riddled with electrical and software issues, and I’m sure Ford will work out the bugs in time but I’m very unhappy to pay for a brand new car only to become Ford’s Ginny Pig. I can’t trade it in as the car industry is wise to the issues with it so I’m stuck with it until Ford can sort out the problems, which the dealer said in September would be 6 weeks max, they’re now saying March 2021. Avoid avoid avoid at least until it’s glitches are resolved
