Fiat Panda 4x4 (2012 - 2023)
0.9 90hp Twinair 4X4 5dr
Brilliant!
I bought my Panda Cross Twinair 4x4 new in 2015. We live at the end of a half-mile potholed farm track, so a 4x4 comes in handy in the winter. It is utterly brilliant in the snow! My record so far is snow-ploughing it through 18" drifts three winters ago, when most other cars - including some 4x4s - were left stranded. It has now (as at Jan 2023) done 63000 miles, with ZERO faults or breakdowns. Servicing has been reasonably priced, provided one shops around between dealers, and it's probably been the cheapest daily driver to run that I've ever owned. The Twinair engine is a hoot to drive - gutsy and rorty at low revs, but very quiet at 70 on the motorway thanks to its 6 speed box - although I've never matched the official mpg figures. The trip shows that my average over the last 8k miles has been 44mpg. I could probably have improved on that, but it's so much fun to drive it like a little dodgem that I'm not that bothered! It's great on narrow country lanes, swallowing up the bumps and offering excellent visibility, and the handling is surprisingly good. The roadholding is excellent on Michelin CrossClimates (the original tyres - Goodyear Vector 4Seasons - were also very good, and lasted 40k miles). There are a few design niggles - ridiculously shaped cup-holders, weak headlights (easily uprated), steering wheel not adjustable for reach, cramped driver footwell) but otherwise it's absolutely brilliant. I've kept it longer than I'd originally intended, and will probably replace it with another Panda Cross when the time comes. But not yet (and not until Fiat re-introduce yellow as an option!)
