Reliability and cost of spares

Purchased new, now done 44k as a driving school car. It drives well, 100bhp from a 1 litre engine (running lpg at 34mpg) and you can't tell its a 3 cylinder. It's not been the most reliable, and has needed to see the inside of the main dealers to be sorted. The main gripes I have with the car are the cost of parts. Main dealer brake pads £175 etc, but it gets worse. I needed a new clutch at 40k. A little early I thought, but as it's used as a driving school car, I didn't see this as completely abnormal. Then the shocks hit, 3 piece clutch £500. It gets worse than that, my mechanic called and said the clutch was wearing, but not worn out, and the problem was actually a dual mass flywheel. Back to Renault £700. Mechanic said no point putting the old clutch in with a new flywheel as the parts will have "bedded" together. So £1200 on parts for a clutch on a car that was 11.5k new
