Cupra Formentor (2020 on)
V2 TSi 150 EVO DSG Auto Start/Stop 5dr
Great looking, great driving, roomy, comfortable car; electrics questionable
I don't have any criticisms of the car itself at all. It looks great, its very good to drive, it is very practical, the DSG is generally pretty good (it can be a little hesitant when its cold) and the engine is smooth and torquey, belying its small 1.5 litre capacity for a car of its size. In sports mode it is adequately quick. The seats are very comfortable with lots of adjustment. The standard equipment is generous.
My criticisms would be entirely with the electrical system. Whilst generally speaking it is okay, it does odd things occasionally that make me think that later in its life this car could be a real money pit to maintain. Sometimes the doors wont unlock when you put your hand on the handle and you have to dig out the key. Sometimes the forward collision systems decide they don't want to work for a few minutes and then they decide they do. Sometimes the engine Start/Stop button doesn't start then engine and you have to push it again. Sometimes the wing mirrors don't unfold automatically when you open the door. Sometimes you start the car and the infotainment is up and running immediately. Sometimes you can be waiting up to a minute for it to initialize. And, as all the controls are in the infotainment screens, you cant so anything until it wakes up. There doesn't seem to be a lot of consistency in the way it operates. I hear this is fairly standard behavior on the current VAG infotainment systems, though.
Overall, I don't think I would let these minor niggles put me off recommending the car to anyone.
