Citroen C5 X (2022 on)
Shine plus hybrid
Great Refinement, just a little too much technology for my brain.

Just getting to know my car and starting to appreciate the satisfaction of driving something that is a bit better than the normal
German offerings. I also own a 2018 718 Porsche Boxster which has been trouble from day one, not sure why we keep it
really, but my wife loves it anyway. Bombproof German engineering, I don’t think so!
I am a dedicated Citroen fan having owned around 40 versions since 1971 and this latest car seems to come close
to echoing past hydroneumatic versions like the CX,GS,BX,XM, Xantia and C5s of the past.
My previous car was a DS5 which was totally reliable throughout its six years in my hands requiring only replacement brake pads, tyres, one ball joint and a rear number plate bulb. The seats were supremely comfortable and the ride quality no worse than the majority of German vehicles that I travel in from time to time despite what ‘road testers’ say.
My C5X appears to be well built and is full of the latest semi autonomous driving aids some of which I would rather do without.
I find the adaptive cruise control too complicated and not suited to UK roads which are just too crowded.
Also, I tend to switch off the lane keeping feature for the same reason. Other features such as windscreen washer jets through the wipers are great as is the auto high beam lights with cornering lights and the rear camera cleaning jet is really appreciated.
when the car gets dirty.
Hybrid motoring is different and more satisfying than I realised and although it does take some getting used to, so far I must say that it is living up to expectations in terms of refinement and lower running costs plus the feeling that you may be helping to save the planet.
