BMW X1 (2009 - 2015)
sDrive 16d xLine 5dr SUV
It's a good car and has a lot going for it.
I've had the X1 for a couple of months and overall I'm pleased with the car. I wanted a BMW but the 1 series is to small and the 3 series estate is to big so the X1 is about right and with the increased ride height I get better visibility.
I'm not somebody who potters about so I'm delighted with the economy as the car averages 54 mpg and that's without the 'ecopro' switched on. I like the look of the X1 and in the X-line spec the car has added silver trim and bigger alloys which I think makes the car look a lot better when compared with the SE trim.
My criticisms are few but do spoil the overall driving experience. One issue is the pedals, which are set to far to the right of the foot well, and the gearbox which is really awful to use. The gearbox is 'clunky' and obstructive and can't be rushed when changing from one gear to the next. Also, to select reverse requires a significant shove to get in to gear. It's a shame as it makes driving around town hard work. When the time arrives to change the X1 and if I decide to go for another BMW I'll definitely not buy one with a manual gearbox.
Overall, I would recommend this car to a friend but suggest they consider getting one with an automatic gearbox.
