Almost perfect

The car was a ex demo with 7K on the clock. It came with a number of extras I didn't need, including optional 19" wheels and that's the "almost perfect" bit. The ride as a result was OK(ish) but the tram lining was quite severe at times and required constant steering corrections which made for a less than relaxing drive. A combination of sports suspension, 19" wheels and run flat tyres is not one I'd recommend.

For winter I invested in some (original) 18" wheels and non RFT all weather tyres. The difference is incredible; the steering is now precise and relaxed without the constant need to correct tramlining. Clearly BMW do not understand UK road conditions, such a shame because the rest of the car is simply superb.

The 8 speed auto gearbox is responsive, smooth changing and locks up quickly to avoid the energy sapping torque converter. Performance from the 2 litre diesel is adequate rather than sparkling, although in truth I've rarely found it wanting.overall full consumption has been excellent; over 8K miles, I've averaged 50.1 mpg with a mix of short local journeys plus longer motorway trips.

Inside the sports seats are supportive and cosseting and overall the ambience is superb. I really enjoy just getting into the driving seat, it still feels special 9 months later. Except for some very slight tyre noise, progress is quiet and refined. Cabin space is more than adequate for 4 or 5 adults as is the boot. Since both my wife and I are golfers, I opted for fold down rear seats and that gives great versatility holding everything with ease.

I looked at the usual alternatives before choosing the BMW, and so far I've no regrets.
