BMW 5 Series (2010 - 2017)
528i Luxury Auto 4dr Saloon
Wonderful to drive, powerful executive transport for both urban and long-distance travel
This is the best car I have ever had. The 6-cylinder, 260HP engine mated to the Steptronic gearbox is effortlessly responsive and, with standard suspension, gives a brilliant driving feel and experience. It is nonsense to say (see What Car test reports) that one needs to spend an extra £1000 on a special suspension option to get good driving 'feel'. With 17" runflats, the ride is quiet and smooth on both summer and winter tyres ; I specified comfort seats which, with their multi-pneumatic and electromechanical adjustments for driving position, must be the most comfortable ever and worth EVERY penny. In fact, I'd say a steal at the price. The selectable 'Auto' handbrake which activates when the car stops and that releases on touching the accelerator is brilliant for town driving. The i-Drive function selector is now (after the previous version in the E60 5-series) crisp, intuitive and faultless and its use with the in-built sat-nav/'phone/entertainment systems could not be bettered. All my favourite music is stored on the car's hard-disc making CD drives and MP3 players obsolete. With the split, folding rear-seat option that I also specified (again a steal, I'd say), the car converts into a long-load, almost estate-like vehicle. I've only had one fault; on Day 2 of ownership, I couldn't unlock the car with the remote, so I used the owner's i-Phone BMW App which opened the doors perfectly within a few seconds. The faulty receiver in the car's communication module was replaced next day under warranty by BlueBell Wilmslow (a peerless Dealership) and there have been no other faults since. This is one brilliant, lovely car!
