BMW 2 Series Active Tourer (2014 - 2021)
218i 1.5 Luxury Auto 5dr
Good drive but over engineered
Overall: Competent and comfortable drive. Handles well on corners, accelerates smoothly and quickly. However, over engineered too many bells and whistles at the expense of simple, more useful functions eg sun glass pocket, retractable mirrors, tripometer. Access to media and sat nav controls over complicated and relies on driver constantly looking down at control panel near lap. Access to basic information such as engine temperature, etc is difficult to locate and involves looking away from road. Controls are not as well thought out as some of cheaper models eg Hyundai.
Good:
Handles and accelerates well
Good back support
Rear door has automatic opener
Bad:
Cigar lighter constant live – can’t keep anything plugged in such as a camera, or battery will go down
Difficult to see useful information eg engine temp you need push button several times whilst moving eyes from road
Keeps locking doors – no good for me with dogs
Front seat extending leg support not comfortable for all
Missing helpful additions eg mirror retraction and pull out extra for sun visor (as in Hyundai)
No sun glasses pocket
Overly complicated sat nav and media controls
Main controls are at lap level – eyes off road again!
Wipers/indicators over complicated
