Overall reliability

A perfect blend of quality and practicality.

The ride is excellent; a good balance between comfort and handling and the engine and suspension are particularly refined and quiet. At idle it is near silent, and there is no thumping over potholes. At speed there is a lack of wind and road noise.

Inside, there's a high-quality, well finished cabin with several nice touches. Passenger space is very impressive with a good level of room in the back and adjustment to all seats. Boot space is useful and can be extended easily. The standard seats are very comfortable and have plenty of adjustment.

There are some ergonomic quirks. If you have the steering wheel in a high position it blocks the digital display in the instrument binnacle, meaning you have to peek over the top of the steering wheel boss to read it. It's also surprising to see exposed screw-heads under the instrument cowl. It's still a lovely interior though.

On the move, the car is amazingly refined, eager and economical. I have an average of 58mpg and the Eco-Pro mode works very well with little compromise.

Looks are better in the flesh than in the photos - especially the lighter metallics.

Sitting on a brand-new chassis and benefitting from new engines, you can instantly appreciate the sophisticated engineering.

I am very pleased with the car; it works excellently as a company vehicle being smart and on the right-side of the taxman, plus at the weekend you couldn't want for a more satisfying vehicle for a small family. BMW have struck a perfect balance.
