BMW 1 Series (2011 - 2019)
116i SE Auto 5 door
Little rocket with a super smooth 8 speed auto
Downsized from an E90 320i 3 series that I had driven for 9 years on business as I no longer need a large car just for two most of the time.
It fairly early days with this 1 series, but early observations after 1,000 miles are;
Sublime 8 speed torque converter automatic, although it sometimes gets caught out by slight turbo lag. Fuel consumption is less than stated although in fairness I am a press on driver. Big mistake not ordering xenon's as was fitted on my E90, the performance warrants better headlights than standard glow worms. Rear interior space a bit tight and only suitable for four adults. Rear seat backrest is more upright than 3 series and not so comfortable. Boot is compact with no under floor storage and parcel shelf is flimsy. Ride on Run flats fitted on standard rims is good and much better than my old 3 series on standard rims and run-flats. DAB radio good when you have reception in East Sussex. Bluetooth is brilliant for connecting phone but ipod paring is not so good. I chose oyster leather to make interior lighter and it works well, but an expensive option. Objected to paying extra on this level (£24K) of car for an auto dipping rear view mirror, should be standard. Some of the lower down interior trim is a bit cheap looking. Some wind noise over 70 mph from mirrors. In summary a real drivers car if you can live with some of the short comings. Would have purchased a new Golf or A3 sportback with an DSG auto if the gearbox was reliable and didn't dangerously hesitate at roundabouts and junctions. One bad experience with a DSG Passat was enough to put me off.
Will post further updates as mileage progresses.
