Overall reliability

comfortable and quiet with economy and power but lacking versatility for load carrying

Bought as a workhorse and dog carrier it is great for effortless long journeys making 500 mile round trips in a day not unattractive.
The engine has more than enough power for safe overtaking and gliding up passes in the highlands.
Fuel economy averages just over 60 mpg with 65 mpg on long motorway journeys. Uses a lot of diesel to warm the engine so short trips in winter can be costly.
Driving about 20,000 miles a year problems have been failure of Pressure Sensor Brake Booster, which cost £ 70 from Audi and simple to fit myself. Used to doing my own servicing I found that with no oil dip-stick I could not pump the oil out of the engine and had to get underneath. Rear wash-wipe leaked inside and wrecked the automatic tail gate switch, clearly a design fault.
German safety means it is impossible to remove the front passenger head-restraint so it is impossible to carry long loads with the passenger seat back reclined fully. Only option might be to remove the front seat entirely.
CD/DVD player in the glove box meant that the passenger snapped a CD in half and I am wondering how much dismantling it will take to get the broken half out of the player.

Driving annoyances are the engine stop/auto restart sometimes lets you down even whilst moving and very occasionally it won't go into gear when changing up.
Today with a puncture to mend, the tyre shop said both rear tyres were almost bald on the inner edges and £310 on 2 new tyres might be better than wasting £38.50 on a repair.

Finally as a self servicer I cannot understand how the car, fresh from the dealer did 18,000 miles before it said the oil needed changing, but after I serviced the car and reset the oil change indicator it only gave me 9,200 miles before it said I needed to change the oil.
