NIO ET5 Review 2024
NIO ET5 At A Glance
The Nio ET5 is aimed squarely at challenging the popular Tesla Model 3. The ET5 combines sporty performance with advanced technology and is set to compete with other electric fastbacks like the BMW i4, Polestar 2, Hyundai Ioniq 6 and Kia EV6.
With a powerful 490PS output, the Nio ET5 delivers impressive performance. The vehicle offers a choice of two battery sizes and takes advantage of Nio's unique battery swap facilities. This feature allows users to quickly and easily exchange their batteries, enhancing convenience and addressing range anxiety concerns.
The Nio ET5 boasts a high-tech interior, highlighted by the vivid PanoCinema digital cockpit and the Nomi AI virtual assistant. The digital cockpit includes a 12.8-inch AMOLED center display and a 10.2-inch HDR instrument cluster, offering cutting-edge hardware and continuous software development.
The interior design aims to create a warm and inviting atmosphere, with sustainable materials such as Clean+ fabric made from recycled bottles. Other notable features include 'invisible' air vents, soft-close doors, frameless windows, and a panoramic glass roof that filters out harmful UV rays.
In terms of size, the Nio ET5 measures 4790mm long, 1960mm wide, and 1499mm tall, making it slightly larger than the Tesla Model 3. The vehicle's sleek fastback design, with ultra-slim LED headlights and smooth lines, bears resemblance to its rival.
Safety and autonomous driving capabilities are a key focus for Nio and the ET5 incorporates 33 'information gathering' units around the car to support its Nio Autonomous Driving (NAD) system. Over-the-air updates will continuously enhance the autonomous driving features.
The electric motors of the Nio ET5 provide a total power output of 490PS, enabling the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in just 4.0 seconds.
Two battery options are available: a 75kWh Standard Range battery with a range of 283 miles and a 100kWh Long Range battery with a range of up to 366 miles. While rapid charging operates at 130kW, the Nio ET5 also supports battery swapping, allowing for a battery replacement in under five minutes at Nio Power Swap Stations.
The Nio ET5 features high-performance four-piston brake calipers, achieving a stopping distance of 33.8 meters from 62mph. The vehicle's sensors and radars enable various assisted and intelligent driving functionalities, gradually enhancing safety and offering a reassuring driving experience in different scenarios, including highways, urban areas, parking and battery swapping.
