The new Volkswagen Tayron is offered with a choice of five or seven seats, and is positioned between the smaller Volkswagen Tiguan and range-topping Volkswagen Touareg.
The new Volkswagen Tayron is a rival to seven-seat alternatives such as the popular Skoda Kodiaq, the Peugeot 5008 and the impressive new Kia Sorento.
A range of petrol, diesel, mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines will be offered with the new Volkswagen Tayron – but there won’t be a fully electric version.
The Volkswagen ID.Buzz is available for those who do want a seven-seat Volkswagen EV.
The new Volkswagen Tayron will also appeal to those who tow, thanks to its generous 2400kg towing capacity.
2025 Volkswagen Tayron prices and release date
The new Volkswagen Tayron is now open for ordering in the UK. Prices start from £39,850 for the entry-level Volkswagen Tayron Life 1.5 eTSI.
Range-topping new Volkswagen Tayron R-Line and R-Line Edition versions are priced from just over £50,000.
This means the new Volkswagen Tayron fits neatly into the gap between the Volkswagen Tiguan and Volkswagen Touareg.
First deliveries of the new Volkswagen Tayron are expected in early spring.
2025 Volkswagen Tayron styling, interior and technology
The styling of the new Volkswagen Tayron is clearly derived from the Volkswagen Tiguan. From the front, the two cars are almost identical. The Volkswagen Tayron does have bigger, meatier air intakes in its bumper, giving it a more assertive appearance on the road.
The Volkswagen Tayron has a longer wheelbase, which means the rear doors are longer. The curvaceous rear haunches are extended too, but discreetly so, giving it an elegant elongated look. The new Volkswagen Tayron also has an additional upper trim strip that stretches around the windows to frame the rear screen. This can be taken in black or polished metal effect.
The new Volkswagen Tayron is the firm’s first combustion engined model to have illuminated VW logos front and rear. Along with the LED front and rear lights, they give it a distinctive appearance at night.
The new Volkswagen Tayron will be available in five trim levels, called Life, Match, Elegance, R-Line and R-Line Edition. The R-Line models have a bespoke appearance that’s sportier and more distinctive.
The new Volkswagen Tayron offers a choice of 17-inch, 18-inch, 19-inch and 20-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the new Volkswagen Tayron broadly shares its main controls with the Volkswagen Tiguan. This includes a large 12.9-inch touchscreen on all models, which can be enlarged further to 15.0-inches on higher grade versions. A digital driver display is standard too.
Instead of the Volkswagen Tiguan’s flush dashboard, the new Volkswagen Tayron has an extended lower shelf that stretches the full width of the dashboard. This is available in a number of finishes, including an open-pore wood trim. The new Volkswagen Tayron also comes with 10-colour ambient lighting as standard.
An optional extra-large tilt and slide panoramic glass roof will flood the interior of the new Volkswagen Tayron with light, while standard three-zone climate control will automatically keep front and rear passengers at exactly the right temperature.
A clever multi-function driving experience dial allows the driver to adjust driving profiles, audio volume and cabin atmospheres by calling up pre-programmed lighting and audio moods. It’s the same dial that’s proven popular on the latest Skoda Kodiaq.
New Volkswagen Tayron buyers can choose from either five or seven seats, the latter across three rows. At launch, the base 1.5 eTSI has seven seats, with 1.5 TSI eHybrids offering five seats. 2.0 TDI and 2.0 TSI will also offer seven seats.
In five-seat mode, the new Volkswagen Tayron has an enormous 885-litre boot. This expands to 2090 litre with the rear seats folded.
In seven-seat mode, the new Volkswagen Tayron has a 345-litre boot with all three rows occupied. In five-seat mode, it has an 850-litre boot, expanding to 1905 litres with both rows folded.
Plenty of standard safety assist tech in the new Volkswagen Tayron include adaptive cruise control (called ACC), lane-change Side Assist and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring. A rear parking camera is also standard.
2025 Volkswagen Tayron engines, performance and fuel economy
The most affordable new Volkswagen Tayron has a 1.5-litre eTSI mild hybrid engine. This produces 150PS and comes with a seven-speed DSG gearbox as standard.
The new Volkswagen Tayron is also offered with two plug-in hybrid engines The 1.5 TSI eHybrid is available with either 204PS or 272PS, both with a six-speed DSG gearbox. Both have a large 19.7kW battery that should give up to 75 miles of pure electric range. Standard 40kWh fast charging gives fast top-ups on the move – from 10% to 80% in 26 minutes.
Regular petrol and diesel new Volkswagen Tayron will follow on 20 February. The 2.0 TDI diesel produces 150PS and has a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The 2.0 TSI petrol has standard 4Motion all-wheel drive and offers either 204PS or 265PS.
The new Volkswagen Tayron shares a chassis with the Volkswagen Tiguan. It will drive in a similarly composed way, while the longer wheelbase may help improve the ride quality.
