  • Arrives in 2025 with prices expected to start from under £30k

The new Renault 4 is the French firm’s second electric retro recreation and aims to be a more practical five-door alternative to the chic Renault 5.

The new Renault 4 is an electric small SUV with five doors, a big boot and plenty of practicality.

The new Renault 4 also has loads of cool design touches, from a single-piece illuminated grille, a modern LED interpretation of the classic Renault 4’s three-part rear lights and even an opening canvas electric roof.

The new Renault 4 has a range of up to 250 miles and has rapid-charge functionality to minimise time at a public charge point.

Add in the award-winning Google-based infotainment system and even a virtual assistant called ‘Reno’, and the new Renault 4 already has plenty of appeal.

Will the new Renault 4 turn out to be another potential smash hit for the firm, following the exceedingly well-received Renault 5? Read on to find out.

2025 Renault 4 prices and release date

The new Renault 4 arrives in the UK in the middle of 2025. Renault has already opened ordering for a £150 ‘R4 R-Pass’, which will give customers access to early information and, if they place a full order, be among the first to take delivery. They can also place their order 10 days before anyone else.

New Renault 4 Prices have not yet been announced, but it is expected to start from just under £30,000.

2025 Renault 4 styling, interior and technology

The new Renault 4, like the latest Renault 5, is a charming-looking car that once again revives a retro favourite. Even at first glance, it’s obvious that this is a modern interpretation of the original Renault 4.

The new Renault 4 is packed with neat details. The single-piece illuminated grille surround is a high-tech iteration of the original’s chrome grille, the bonnet line visually continues to the base of the grille while the three feature lines at the bottom of the doors reference the plastic protectors of the original.

At the rear of the new Renault 4, the side window is shaped just like the original’s quirky design, while LED tail lamps echo the original’s three-part lights.

The new Renault 4 even has an electric fold-back canvas roof option, called plein sud. It has an 80x92cm opening and can even be opened by voice control. Renaut adds that it’s fully lined for good acoustics and sealing qualities (it won’t leak like a retro Renault 4) and comes with no loss in headroom.

There’s a retro range of colours for the new Renault 4 as well. Hauts-de-France Green, Cloud Blue, Glacier White, Urban Grey, Diamond Black, Terracotta Brown and Carmine Red can be combined with two-tone options as well.

Inside, the new Renault 4 has the same blend of modern tech and retro design as the Renault 5. Stars of the show are the dual horizontal screens, including a standard 10.0-inch multimedia screen that runs Renault’s Google-based OpenR Link system.

The infotainment system includes built-in Google Maps that has charging-optimised route planning and can even activate pre-conditioning of the battery ahead of a charge. Additional apps from the Google Play Store can be added, including the Vivaldi web browser.

The new Renault 4 also features a voice assistant called Reno, which is described as 'an avatar with real personality.' We shall see.

The new Renault 4 has a smart mix of materials to give it a premium feel, and the shelf on the dash has stitched trim for a retro look – along with an illuminated ‘Renault 4’ logo above.

The new Renault 4 shares the Renault 5’s AmpR Small underpinnings, but has an extended 2.62-metre wheelbase. This gives plenty of rear kneeroom, says Renault, along with "particularly generous" rear seat headroom.

The new Renault 4 has a generous boot too. It measures 420 litres (39 litres bigger than a Volkswagen Golf), and is revealed by a power tailgate. There are lashing hooks, bag hooks, rubber bands to hold objects in place, and a 35-litre underfloor area for the charging cable.

The new Renault 4 has a split-fold rear seat, and a folding front passenger seat allows loads up to 2.2 metres long to be carried.

2025 Renault 4 electric motors, performance and range

The new Renault 4 is available in Europe with either a 40kWh battery that gives a 186-mile range, or a 52kWh battery that gives a 250-mile range. The UK will get the bigger battery, but may not get the smaller and cheaper option.

The new Renault 4 52kWh version has a 150PS electric motor that delivers 0-62mph performance in under 8.5 seconds. It has 100kW DC rapid charging functionality, going from a 15% to 80% charge in 30 minutes.

The new Renault 4 40kWh has a 120PS electric motor and 80kW rapid charge functionality. Both powertrains feature a standard heat pump, to help with efficiency, and both have vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) functionality that can power external devices or feed electricity back into the grid.

The new Renault 4’s suspension has been tuned to give a smoother ride than the Renault 5. It has 1.2cm more ground clearance than even the Renault Captur small SUV, along with a tight turning circle of 10.8 metres.

The new Renault 4 also features the firm’s new ‘One Pedal’ function. By using regenerative braking, the vehicle slows down when the driver releases the accelerator – and, if they time it right, can even come to a full stop without having to press the brake pedal.

What size is the new Renault 4?

The new Renault 4 measures 4.14 metres long and 1.8 metres wide. In terms of overall length, it’s surprisingly similar to the original Renault 4.

Is the new Renault 4 similar to the new Renault 5?

Both the new Renault 4 and Renault 5 are part of the firm’s Iconic Family. These retro recreations are related below the surface, sharing 68% of parts, but are completely different from the outside.

What is the range of the new Renault 4?

The new Renault 4 has a range of up to 250 miles with the 52kWh battery. A cheaper 40kWh battery will have a range of 186 miles.
