Vauxhall Astra Electric Griffin 2024: Prices cut for family EV
The new Vauxhall Astra Electric Griffin is a value-packed special edition that aims to help make family electric motoring more affordable.
New Vauxhall Astra Electric Griffin prices start from £34,995, which is £2800 less than the regular entry-level Astra EV.
The price makes it more competitive with the Renault Megane E-Tech, which now costs from £33,995, and the Volkswagen ID.3, which costs from £35,700. The cheapest Tesla Model 3 is £39,990.
What’s more, the new Vauxhall Astra Electric Griffin has more standard equipment than the entry-level Vauxhall Astra Electric Design model.
Vauxhall has designed a clever PCP car deal too. This means the new Vauxhall Astra Electric Griffin costs exactly the same per month as a petrol-powered Vauxhall Astra Griffin, despite the EV’s £10k higher list price.
Standard equipment for the new Vauxhall Astra Electric Griffin builds on Design trim, but adding privacy rear glass, heated front seats and an uprated AGR-approved driver's seat.
There’s also a heated steering wheel, wireless smartphone charging and rear-view camera to complement the front and rear parking sensors.
The new value-priced model is also available in Vauxhall Astra Electric Griffin Sports Tourer estate guise (EV estates remain thin on the ground), which costs £37,195.
2024 Vauxhall Astra Electric Griffin: EV range and finance deals
The new Vauxhall Astra Electric Griffin has a 54kWh battery. This gives it a range of up to 258 miles. It is able to use DC rapid charging, so can go from 20% to 80% charge in 26 minutes.
It has a 156PS electric motor.
As mentioned, to help make the new Vauxhall Astra Electric Griffin even more accessible, the firm has tailored finance offers. It not only costs less per month than a regular Astra EV, but monthly payments also match the petrol equivalent.
With a low £2000 deposit, the new Vauxhall Astra Electric Griffin is available for £399 a month, on a five-year PCP car finance deal.
The annual mileage is 8000 and the APR is 4.5%. The final payment at the end of the deal is £12,883.
The deal is competitive because it is a five-year package, rather than the regular four-year PCP car finance deal. The APR is also less than half the 9.9% rate for a petrol-powered Vauxhall Astra Griffin.
Can I get a petrol-powered new Vauxhall Astra Griffin?
For those who aren’t yet ready to make the switch, there is also a petrol-powered Vauxhall Astra Griffin. This uses a 130PS 1.2-litre turbo engine.
The Vauxhall Astra Griffin 1.2T costs £24,795 and is only available as a hatchback, with a six-speed manual gearbox.
On finance, it too costs £399 a month, with the same low £2000 deposit.
The deal is spread over four years, with an APR of 9.9% and a final payment of £10,505.
Vauxhall adds that those who go for petrol rather than electric won’t enjoy the savings that most EV drivers enjoy, including a lower energy cost per mile, lower maintenance costs and exemption from VED road tax and congestion charging "at the present time."
Ordering for both new Vauxhall Astra Griffin models is open now, with deliveries also starting this month.
