Updated Volkswagen Touareg goes on sale

Volkswagen has launched its latest upgraded VW Touareg in the UK, offering a range of new features and improvements that aim to strike a balance between on-road, off-road and towing capabilities.

The large luxury SUV is on sale now and prices range from £67,640 up to £80,370 for high spec models.

One new feature of the revised VW Touareg is its IQ.Light HD LED matrix headlights, which utilise almost 40,000 LEDs to provide more visibility at night.

The headlights feature three light modules in each unit, creating a distinctive design and projecting a lane of light ahead of the driver without dazzling oncoming traffic.

Additional lighting functions include cornering and poor weather illumination. Moreover, the optional Night Vision assist system utilises a thermal imaging camera to detect people and animals, displaying them on the cockpit and optional head-up display.

The exterior design of the new Touareg has also received upgrades. The front end now features an illuminated horizontal strip in the radiator grille plus there's a similar illuminated red brand logo across the rear. Complementing the vehicle's looks are new alloy wheel designs.

The new VW Touareg comes in five different versions - all featuring a 3.0-litre V6 engine. These include the turbocharged petrol engine (340 PS), two diesels (231 PS and 286 PS) and two plug-in hybrid options (V6 petrol engine plus electric drive motor).

The plug-in hybrid versions, the Touareg eHybrid and Touareg R eHybrid, offer outputs of 381PS and 462PS, respectively. All engines come with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and 4Motion permanent all-wheel drive.

The running gear has been updated to enhance comfort on all types of terrain, while features like active roll compensation and all-wheel steering add to the vehicle's agility.

Technology systems include Travel Assist, providing assisted driving up to a maximum speed and Area View, which offers a 360-degree bird's eye view on the infotainment display to assist with manoeuvering. Additionally, Park Assist Plus with remote parking capability allows the driver to control parking remotely via a smartphone app.

Volkswagen has upgraded the Touareg's interior including soft armrests and padded centre consoles to cushion passengers' knees from bumps.

The Innovision Cockpit combines a digital 12-inch instrument cluster and a 15-inch touchscreen Discover Premium infotainment system, providing a seamless digital landscape for ease of use. The Touareg also offers wireless app integration for smartphones, voice control, and lane-level navigation.

Can I drive my Tiguan in two-wheel-drive for better fuel economy?

Can a VW Tiguan 4 Motion be switched to driving in 2WD mode? If yes, will the fuel economy improve?
Depending on which generation of Volkswagen Tiguan you own, if you use the On-Road driving mode the 4Motion system operates in front-wheel-drive and only sends power to the real wheels if it detects a certain degree of wheelspin. This means that for the vast majority of driving it will be operating in two-wheel-drive and will deliver the best possible fuel economy.
