Vauxhall expands Astra range with new Ultimate models

Vauxhall has opened order books for its new Astra Sports Tourer Ultimate models, which come in both petrol and plug-in hybrid versions.

The Astra Sports Tourer Ultimate models start at £33,765 OTR and offer several upgrades over the existing Astra Sports Tourer GS models.

The Ultimate variants come with IntelliLux adaptive LED pixel headlights, Lane Change Assist with Side Blind Spot Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert technologies. The car has heated ergonomic active sports-style front seats in Alcantara trim, certified by the Campaign for Healthier Backs.

The Ultimate models also have Intelli-HUD (Head-Up Display) and wireless charging for smartphones, making it more convenient for drivers.

Additionally, the Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer Ultimate models have exterior upgrades such as 18-inch grey diamond-cut alloy wheels, high gloss black roof rails, and a powered tailgate for ease of access. The car's cabin has a panoramic sunroof, which enhances the ambiance of the car.

Vauxhall has also made several updates to the Vauxhall Astra range. The Intelli-Drive 2.0 technology is now standard on Ultimate Plug-in Hybrid and petrol auto variants as well as GSe models across both Astra and Astra Sports Tourer.

The Intelli-Drive 2.0 technology comes with Vauxhall's most advanced and intuitive driver assist technologies, including Advanced Intelligent Speed Adaptation. The car also features Semi-Automated Lane Change, which allows the driver to instruct the vehicle to change lanes.

Vauxhall has removed the 1.5 130PS EAT8 diesel option from its Astra line-up in line with recent market trends. This means that the Astra is now solely available in the UK market as a petrol or plug-in hybrid vehicle.

The Vauxhall Astra Electric will also be added soon. Existing customer orders for diesel variants will still be built. This change also means that Vauxhall Grandland is now the only Vauxhall passenger car that offers a diesel variant.

Astra Design models will have their chrome Vizor frame and lower bumper stripes replaced by a high gloss black variant. This change enhances the car's look and brings it in line with the GS variants.

Best medium-sized petrol hybrid under £30,000?

I'm looking to buy a new, medium-sized petrol hybrid for under £30,000. I've tried a Toyota Corolla and the new Honda Civic, both are good. Are there any other cars I should consider before making a decision?
We're assuming you're not looking at a plug-in hybrid, but a 'self-charging' hybrid instead? There aren't many more medium-sized hybrid hatchbacks to choose from, but the Peugeot 308, Vauxhall Astra and Skoda Octavia iV are well worth considering as plug-ins. Another hybrid car to consider is the new Kia Niro.
