Volvo to reintroduce V60 and V90 estates in the UK
Volvo is bringing back the V60 and V90 estate cars, less than a year after removing them from sale in the UK.
The original decision to go SUV-only was said to be due to falling appetite for estate cars but while Volvo insists this remains a long-term trend it says there has been a resurgence for its estate cars in recent months.
As a result, both the V60 and V90 will reopen for orders from July 2024. The V60 and V90 will both be available in Plus and Ultra trims.
The Volvo V60 will be offered with a B4 mild hybrid engine, plus T6 and T8 plug-in hybrids. Meanwhile, the larger Volvo V90 will only be available as a T6 or T8 plug-in hybrid.
In announcing the demise of the Volvo estate last year, the firm said less than 10% of customers were choosing a saloon or estate.
"The vast majority of our customers opt for an SUV. The XC40, XC60 and XC90 all sit in the top three positions in their respective segments when it comes to UK sales," said Volvo.
So why has Volvo chosen to bring back the estate? It says it has "re-evaluated" its model range and that as part of this process, it is not uncommon for to remove certain models or derivatives from sale and reintroduce them later.
Pointedly though, the company did add that it was "thrilled by the many comments from customers and media last year, with many stories and memories of our estate cars have been a huge part of their lives. We look forward to helping create more."
Prices for the revived Volvo V60 and V90 will be announced next month and we’ll bring you a full rundown of the updated range when more details are confirmed.
