Paris Motor Show 2014: Mercedes launches new C63 AMG
Mercedes-Benz has revealed the new AMG version of the latest C-Class. Available as both a saloon and estate, the C63 AMG is powered by a 4.0-litre biturbo V8 engine and will be available to order in October. Prices are expected to start at £60,000 and the first cars will arrive in early 2015.
The C63 AMG produces 476PS giving it a 0-62mph time 4.1 seconds (4.2 seconds in the estate) while economy and emissions have both improved over the old AMG model, with an official 34.5mpg for the saloon along with CO2 of 192g/km.
If that's not enough power for you, there's an AMG S version which uses the same engine but with power boosted to 510PS. That reduces the acceleration time fractionally, down by 0.1 seconds. It also gets more torque, which is upped from 650Nm to 700Nm.
Both versions come with a heavily revised version of the AMG Speedshift MCT 7-speed gearbox which has been improved with faster shift times. There's also a new braking system with 390mm discs at the front and 360mm at the rear with the option of ceramic discs.
The C63 AMG gets a unique suspension set-up along with an AMG Ride Control system, which alters the suspension across three settings from comfort through to a track set-up. There is also a mechanical locking rear differential on C63, with an electronic version on the C63 S.
On the outside, the new C63 AMG has bespoke bumpers with deep airdams plus a unique AMG grille and a new bonnet with power domes. There are wider front wings and new quad exhaust pipes along with a small wing mounted on the bootlid and above the tailgate glass on the estate.
The interior gets deep, contoured seats, a special AMG steering wheel and recalibrated. AMG sports seats are an optional extra.
