Paris Motor Show 2014: All-new Mazda MX-5 debuts
The all-new Mazda MX-5 has made its European public debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The fourth generation model is set to go on sale in the UK in early 2015 and should cost from around £20,000.
The new car wears more aggressive styling than earlier cars and is lighter than its predecessor by around 100kg. Despite its new look, the philosophy of the new MX-5 is the same as ever – it’s a light, nimble, rear-wheel drive sports car that’s designed to be affordable.
Mazda has confirmed its SkyActiv technology is to appear, but final engine details are to be confirmed. Expect two choices – a smaller 1.5-litre engine with around 130PS and a larger 2.0-litre engine with 165PS. A six-speed manual transmission will be standard, with an automatic offered as an option.

The original Mk 1 & 2 was graceful. This looks like a pregnant camel!

This car's pronounced rear fenders reminds me that of an Austin Healey 3000 my neighbor had restored (he also has an MGA..while my old man, an MGB). It pays homage to the sports cars of that era as well, in general. Truly, in this 21st Cent of age...the MX-5 is in a class of it's own. It has no direct competitor. It OWNS the class.

I think the styling is great. I have a mk2 MX5 and like the new car which has gone back to more curvaceous and rounded styling. The mk3 was much angular and squared. Only criticisms are the high boot lid and the sloping bonnet - as with the mk2 it can be hard to judge where the front end rests when parking.
