Where can I get reliable/realistic fuel consumption figures? I read an article in the press a couple of months ago that toose provided by manufacturers are a bit optimistic.

Those provided by manufacturers are done by measuring the exhaust gases for a set period of time on a rolling road, "the sort of everyday driving we all do" !!!!!!!!!

Top Gear tend to give their actual attained figures on road tests published in their mag, but they only give the official figures in the car-by-car index in the back, so you will need to order a back-copy of any reviews you want.
No Dosh - but then who has?

Take a look at Autoexpress roadtests. They show what consumption they got. It is interesting to see the real consumption obtained by the journalists, though I do think they are a little on the heavy footed side.

What Car? mag has a comprehensive table for all currently available cars, which gives the manfr's data, and used to show their own figures for the models they have tested - over what they called their Touring Route. [ They seem to have abandoned this column since 2000 ]
