Why do the AA increase renewal fees on automatic renewal then back down immediately when challenged. Every year they quote something like double to renew, and when I check internet price and ring to say I'm leaving, they immediately offer me the internet price. They've just asked me to pay an extra £35 for joint cover, on top of a price which is equal to 2 covers! It drives me mad - I know loyalty counts for nothing these days - I'm amazed they hang onto customers.

That's why I use Autoaid breakdown insurance. £38 for any vehicle either me or my wife are travelling in whether we own it or not.

Come renewal they don't play silly games and the price quoted is what everyone pays.

I go through exactly the same thing with the AA at renewal time every year!

I think the only reason they don't offer the internet price initially for renewal to begin with is that some silly people actually do pay the inflated amount of money they are asking for! Fools!!!

As soon as you tell them that you can't possibly afford the new amount that they're asking and you intend to shop around for a better deal they soon change their minds!

Walk - it's the ony way they can be taught a lesson.

AA owned by a company with lots of borrowed cash to pay back...........the AA is being prepared for sale at some point to raise cash and payback the banks.

RAC are exactly the same. Last time I called to play the usual renewal panto, a really stroppy woman said she could do me a favour and nearly match the online price for a new member (wanted a £5 more), but this was a one-off and would not be repeated the following year. Told her I would feel guilty imposing on her to such an extent (as it was clearly such a huge favour) and that I wouldn't bother renewing. I moved to Brittania but still get mailed with special offers from RAC - well below want they wanted on renewal. Would not return to them now on principle.

Ever tried to sell a house or a car?

Was your initial asking price the amount you realistically thought you'd achieve or did you ask a higher price in the hope that someone may pay a bit more than you expected them to?

I used to flip between RAC and AA every year and scour google for some M&S or Boots vouchers or great new customer deal. I would still do this but have green flag included with the bank account which was fine when I had a flat battery a couple of years ago.

I always get the minimum cover as I'm quite resourseful anyway and then if I go to EU get that cover seperately from Mondial or similar via a screen scraper.

Just had a renewal quote from AA for the basic roadside assistance and move to garage if unfixable = £63!!!!! This is 30% of what I pay for a year's full comp on the car! Going to haggle or move. Update, had a haggle and cover offered for £63 has been reduced to £41 and is comparable to that offered by Green Flag, Autoaid etc.

The difference is - selling a house or car is to a stranger - not a loyal customer of many years - and when I price a house to sell, I don't double what I expect to get, I go for max 10% above what I would be happy with.

My AA renewel was £280 for 4 cars.

Got a quote from Gem Motoring assist for equivelent cover £118.00

AA gave me loads of Ball about how they can attend within 30 mins, last time i needed them on the M25 in year 2001 I had to wait 4 hrs only to find they couldnt fix ! so they aint that good.

AA came back at £110.00 so Ok but dont like doing business this way. So renewed this year but will have to see about next.

think the AA getting too dear and offereing too many gimmiky bits that I dont want !
