Citroen C5 - Annoying "squealing" from rt. front Brakes. - Ivanovich

This C5 car has the Bosch Brake System. This squealing has persisted over a few months and it was suggested I change from "Hard" Pads to softer ones. I replaced with Metelex Pads but the noise persists. (the old pads were hardly worn). It is only heard when the car has almost stopped but never anywhere else. What can it be?

Appling a small amount of coppaslip to the contact point between piston and pad, often cures such squeaks.

Are pistons free to retract easily, are any sliders clean, lubricated and free moving if single piston type?

ISTR the handbrake works on the front wheels on previous model C5, is the mechanism seizing causing the brake to bind?

Thanks very much. I think that the Copperslip may be the answer because the Handbrake Cable was checked when we removed it to replace the Pads. Gordon would you know if I could get the 10 x 2 cm. ribbed rubber strip that fits under the Gearlever on the Auto Control on the Citroen C5? I'm in South Africa and the Agents want me to buy the Complete Auto Gear Assembly instead of just the rubber. Can you advise whether I could order this Rubber Part in the U. K. ?

Wouldn't have the foggiest idea TBH, it sounds like a decent job could be made using a substantial door or boot seal from a breakers yard, cut to size and glued in...thats what i'd be trying first anyway.

Really bugs me the way they expect you to buy expensive assembles for a tuppeny ha'penny bit, the one part that fails on every single one.

Have you had a poke nose on ebay or your local equivalent to see if anyone might have the part or some sort of repair kit.

This ribbed rubber strip is very thin and is held in place by the pressure below the Gearlever assembly and used to prevent the lever from slipping into the Tip Tronic area. I've currently got a piece of Plastic on top of the Assembly in the Gear Lever area and this prevents it slipping into the Tip Tronic area.

You're absolutely right, they want people to buy these expensive assemblies instead of a simple part.
