Ford Escort 1.8 diesel van - Ford Escort Immobiliser - iloveflapjacks

Hi there, One of my indicator stalks had broken so I bought a new unit, replaced it this afternoon and that seems to work fine. Last weekend I did the same thing to have a look at the unit, put it back together and there were no problems.

My problem is that now the van wont start. I checked the battery with a multi meter, thats fine. All the lights come on on the dash and everything but the motor wont turn over at all. The key moves all the way into position. I suspect that the problem is something to do with the immobiliser.....

I removed the Anti-theft sensor form around the ignition colom to make access easier and have replaced this, seems to fit fine.

The blue immobiliser light on the dash board is permanently on.

The Haynes manual says that the system should be de-activated beore the battery was disconnected, what would happen if this wasn't the case?

Any advice much apprecieted, Thanks!
