54 plate 1600 ford focus - focus tries to stall at junctions - steveo3002

weve got a new to us 54 1600 ford focus , when pulling up at junctions and lights the revs drop and it almost stalls , doesnt actulay stall but the revs dip lower than they should

ive taken the idle valve off and it was clean , carb cleanered it anyway and no differant , also cleaned up a few scabby earth wires in the engine room

any ideas or common faults i can try

My car only does this when there's very little petrol in the tank. These days that is most of the time :(
