Ford Mondeo TDCi 2006- - P0251 fault- glow plug comes on when accelerating - ConfusedJoe

Hi all
I have a 2006 113k tdci Mondeo, when using the turbo (foot harder down) the glow plug light comes on and i have limited power.

Fault Code P0251 - Injector pump fuel metering control (cam/rotor/injector)

When removing the engine cover I noticed lots of wetness around the injectors (they or one must be leaking fuel?).

Could this explain the fault or is it normal to have some leakage around the injectors?

If it is a fuel leak causing a low pressure under acceleration how could i cure it? I have wipped it all down and intend to try and find where the fuel is comming from.
Any advice on this fault would be great.
Thanks
Tim

Should be perfectly dry,but these cars are prone to the turbo actuator acting up its electronic and bakes itself from turbo and engine heat and causes the same symptoms that you are experiencing also the EGR creates the same problems when choked up easy peasy job to remove and clean on these engines. You need a good injector company to test the car out not a Ford garage may I add they have neither the equipment or the competence to do this type of work.

Thanks for that.

I have looked into the electronic actuator but that would bring up a different fault code apparently (according to a man who reconditions them). I have cleaned the EGR valve (very, very choked up). And i have just spoked to a mechanic, he said you can get a seal kit for the injectors and if they are leaking that could well be the fault. He didnt think it would be an injector problem as much as a leak problem. What do you think?

Cheers

The discription of the fault code is a little bit of a red herring !

The cause is due to lack of fuel pressure in the rail caused by an injector / injectors leaking back. very common fault code on Mondeo's, done loads of these in the past for the very same fault.

I would suggest you find someone with leakoff test bottles and test, then when you have found the culprit ( or two or even more I suspect ) have the fuel system checked for metal contamination.

Dont bother wasting anytime or money untill they have been leak off tested, as thats where your problem will lie !

Believe me a faulty actuator puts the glow plug light on under acceleration had the problem numerous of times on Jaguars with the same engine.Injection Doc is quite correct about the injectors and fault codes

.Out of interest how do you recon a baked actuator its a sealed unit sits under the Turbo and has to be set up with the turbo thats why they are sold as one unit 675+vat the older vacuum units are completly different.

Ford Mondeo TDCi 2006- - P0251 fault- glow plug comes on when accelerating - Small Car Limited

Hiya all.. I have a 55 plate Mondeo 2.0 115ps. Same problem with glow plug light flashing but also have another problem. I cured 2 problems. Egr valve was choked up so cleaned that and all connecting pipes. Also then noticed a split in the large air intake pipe on the EGR. Replaced that and the EGR valve at a cost of £145 at ford. EGR are exchange unit only. After all that still had the problem. Went to the Turbo Actuator which is the boring electronic type now this was working fine. I swapped the Actuator with one from a 2007 car now there are 3 x 10mm bolts to remove and the circlip that holds the actuator arm. When i removed the item from the new car the actuator arm moved back and forth freely. On my car it was tight and sticking causing the module to throw a fault up and send the glow plug light flashing. I removed the air in take pipe and sprayed the inside of the turbo with Carb Cleaner moving the Actuator arm back and forth till moving freely. All cured and no more faults now. Issue 2.. Glow plug light comes on then goes out on start but the Power to the glow plugs stays on. The connection link on the engine that feed the glow plug rail as slightly melted and ive had to remove the Relay that feeds the glow plugs in the Right hand side fuse box next to battery. Is there a timer unit on this car and where is it located its not working correctly and is jammed or may of got water in and is shorting out. Any help on this matter would be most appriceated. Thank you. Darren at Small Car LTD, Staffordshire.

The actuator and the turbo should not be split and you should never put one from another car onto the existing turbo, they have to be set up together on a special machine thats why they sell them from Ford and Turbo handlers as complete units and modt turbo reconditioners won't touch them .Puting a actuator onto a turbo and not having set up then you will never get it to run correctly.

Wel
Ford Mondeo TDCi 2006- - P0251 fault- glow plug comes on when accelerating - Small Car Limited

Wel sorry i did type more thant that. I did split the turbo and actuator and maybe so your not supposed to but in 25yrs experience i have and can tell you that also the actuator electronic module can be opened. They do not cook or or break they have a problem with the solder drying out and causing dry joints and floating around the small panel with a soldering iron and solder cures this. There held together with a few spring clips. My car is now running fine and went to scotland last week. Lost no power at all runs like a dream like it used too. SO after a new actuator controller and egr valve I replaced the glow plug timer under the battery tray. Thats cured my glow plug staying on issue and all is well.. Sorry Collos25 but you need to educate yourself better. People who cant afford new turbos at £675+vat and egr valves at £145 dont have the money to replace there car or spend this amount of money on new parts. I Do have the money but dont want to spend it when ford want to change the Turbo, Egr, actuator, all relays, Pipes and injectors to solve the problem because they dont have a damn clue and we have a ford estimate repair after they plugged it in and all they offered was a £1800 bill for turbo and glow plug circuit. Turbo replacement and repair £1603.20 inc vat glow plug circuit repair and replacement £275.99 inc vat.. Im sorry but no way. I took my car to ford on 20-7-2010 And after spending near on £180 my car is fixed. Relay from ebay £20.99 Egr from ford. and the Actuator from a good mate was free.. All fix. Put that in ya pipe and smoke it. YAYYYY 2005 Mondeo all healthy again no more problems. I must add that in the last week this car has been to Aberdeen twice at 497miles each way. its been to plymouth and cardiff. and went to Liverpool on Friday and is still racing around as i type in Derby. So Collos25 you keep struggling along and making people run to ford filling there pockets and skinning us alive but trust me Forums are here to help people not rip them off. I was told " Proof is in the Pudding " If anyone as this problem try what i have done if you dont feel you can do it.. I will charge a small amount and do it for you. Good luck

I have never once recomended Ford infact if you were to read y mails I positively warn people from using ford or jaguar .If you split the unit and used odd bits without recalibration you were either very lucky or you have a bag of bones.I use a supplier who gets me recon complete units for under 200ukp.

They don,t bake themselves you cannot have looked at many look at my and other posts on this subject going back many years before you start waffling obviouslly about something you know very little.
