Ford Focus TDCI 2005 - Camshaft/Crankshaft position sensor - jc2
No to the first question-yes to the second. The crankshaft sensor only gives position of the crank, not which stroke it's on-that's why you need a camshaft sensor as well.

Thanks. So would I also be right in saying that breakdown of the crankshaft sensor would contribute to absolute no turn, crank or fire when the ignition is attempted and could this be intermittent from a faulty sensor?

The crankshaft sensor tells the ECM engine speed and position. The camshaft sensor tells the ECM cylinder identification. Both will prevent the engine from running if they fail on a TDCi.....
