Ford focus mk1 - Gear selector cables - hoyak

Hi,

I recently been told that my gear selector cables are broken and have been quoted 215 for repair. Does this sound about right? How can I check the mechanic is telling the truth?

Might be a bit excessive, I'd get another quote.

To check, find where the cables attach to the top of the gearbox. Get someone to change through the gears. You should see both cables moving the levers on top of the box.
