Honda accord - 2001 Honda 2.0 VTEC - sounds like a diesel - jonewer

Hi all,

I have my eye on a 2001 Accord with a 2l VTEC engine. Very nice car. For its age, its stunning.... only the engine on idle sounds like a diesel... a bit agricultural if you know what I mean...

Sign of something major about to give out or nothing to worry about? How can I tell?

Don't like the sound of that, my daughter's Civic has that engine and despite well over 100k it sounds lovely, but it has been serviced correctly through it's life.

So, what's the service history, any, suspect, gapped, missing?

Could be any number of things ranging from trivial to terminal. 10 year old full size cars with petrol engines are ten a penny. Pick another one.
