Ford Focus 2005 tdci - LED bulbs and possible problems - focuskev

Hi,

Does anyone know if by changing headlamp sidelight bulbs, interior and reg plate standard bulbs to LED types affects any control modules in this model(ECU/BCM/GEM/PCM etc) and a possible non start on the vehicle? Would this affect the CANBUS system?

Many Thanks

You could try removing the fuse(s) that cover(s) the lights you mentioned and then see if the starting can be reproduced.

However, the starting issue is likely to be caused by something else. For example, part of the engine software can become corrupted and require reinstalling/upgrading.
Sometimes this happens as a result of a faulty electronic circuit component. A circuit tracer is required to located the offending part.

In certain cases where you have bulb out indicators(some cars have one built into computer) you would need to fit resisters to each lamp but they wont affect starting at all

No, it wouldn't cause the car not to start.

If you have blown bulb check system, it may cause an error.

It's not really much to do with CANBUS at all, although the sellers of this stuff love to throw it round to make them sound special.
