Estate - Wrong tints - where do we stand? - Collins63
Hi. We recently asked a franchised dealer to apply 'manufacturer OEM tints' to the rear side and rear window of our car - to keep the sun off our baby and provide some degree of privacy. I wrote to the dealer asking what colour choices there were, but was told 'none - they come in a standard black'.

I proceeded on the understanding that these were manufacturer OEM parts - and the tint applied to the manufacturer's other cars was the right colour.

On collecting the car, I found that it had been taken to a third party tinting company, who had done an ok job, but have applied virtual black-out film - not what we had wanted and much darker than the OEM tints.

On querying this, it transpires that the 3rd party company do offer a range of darknesses. We'd obviously like to get the tints redone at a lighter tone at the dealer's expense.

We paid by credit card - where do we stand and what ways forward would you suggest?

Thanks in advance.

What evidence do you have, either as recorded audio or in writing?

The dealer should have told you that there are different tints avalable. Then you could have chosen the colour tint you wanted.

Wrong information in my opinion have a word with the dealer.

If you ordered manufacturer's tints and they supplied something else then you have a potential case for the correct tints to be supplied. If you don't like the tints which were supplied and want them to supply a lighter non-manufacturer version then that would be a matter for negotiation as to what you can achieve.

If you specified manufacturer approved tints and they supplied aftermarket then you have a potential case for them to fit the manuacturer approved set.

If you didn't specify but now would like a different colour which you have now discovered available then they probably can charge you for both sets - but you might negotiate a discount.
