Cat B query - youreds

I was wondering if anyone can offer a definitive answer to this: Can a car that has been Category B written off be sold on again as a whole car? After trawling through the internet it seems that some say the body shell must be crushed, but the parts can be sold as spares, but others say it is ok to sell on a Cat B listed car as long as it has a valid MOT and VIC check. Is it legal or illegal to sell the car? A mechanic friend has offered me a car and is insistent it is legal. A call to the insurance company suggests they will not pay out on a Cat B car should it be involved in a crash, but I would like to know to settle the matter as the law seems really hazy?

Thanks

JB

There is a thread on this in the legal forum:

It seems you can get them back on the road but people often have difficulty insuring them. The OP at the above thread has managed to get the vehicle insured though.

Not according to the official blurb they must be crushed and a notification cerifate issued the parts can be removed and used but not the shell or the id number.

cats A and B must be destryoed, cat b you can take parts off.

cat C is beyond economical repair and must have a VIC done.

Cat D is beyond economical repair and just needs an MOT.
