I've got a 1999 mondeo Ghia X 2.5 auto.
If it's in park and you rev it quite strongly (+4k) the revs drop then pick-up againt (as though you were repeatedly pressing accelerator and taking you foot off).
Is this normal ? Is there some kind of cut-out programme for high revs when stationary ?

It's due to your car being an auto.
It stops you red lining it in neutral then poping it into drive and sending mechanical bits scattering in all directions.

Who in their right mind would sit and rev an Eleven year old car to the limiter?? Get a life.

Steady on MD :-) He might just have done it once unintentionally and happened to notice it (remember it happens at 4k, not that high) and decided to investigate to check if faulty. I know I would.
