Not much wrong with the original S-Max, I always thought - unless you happen to see it from directly behind, when it looks like a shoebox.
The Ford press release has lots of words to tell us how 'athletic' and 'dynamic' they look, but only one picture of each.
I still wish Ford / Volvo would somehow combine the economy and wieldiness of the S-Max with the interior of the XC90. I'd buy one of those!

More importantly the 2.0 diesel will now be in 3 states of tune (so no more 2.2 like with the C5?), and be offered with a twin-clutch auto, a la VW DSG.

Maybe there's an obvious answer I've missed, but I've never understood the need for Galaxy AND S-Max. Don't they effectively duplicate each other?
|
The Galaxy is bigger (and more expensive).
Because they are built at the same factory as the Mondeo, it is easy for the the models to coexist.

The S-Max also appeals to customers who wouldn't consider a Galaxy - me, for one.

But why exactly wouldn't you consider one? Personally I'd go for an S-Max which is good-looking, rather than a Galaxy which is frumpy and ugly (although I'm not in the market for either)

The Galaxy is a full seven-seater, which I simply don't need. And it looks and- I imagine, without having driven one - feels it. The S-Max, which I have driven, has excellent space for five plus luggage, with the option of two usable seats for the rare occasions I'd need them, yet it doesn't drive like a bus. The key feature of a true MPV for many is not the third row but the ability to carry three boosted passengers in the second, something most estate cars can't; you can even order your S-Max without the third row if you like.

Unless you're a company car driver on HMRC rates, in which case you'll be paid 3 or 4p per mile less for a sub 2.0L diesel, that will remove the Ford from my list in 12 months time as I've already suffered the 'subsidise the company' pain once before.....
