98 1.6 Replacing water pump, and tips? - Mookfish
I need to replace the water pump as the old one is leaking, my car has the type with 4 bolts on the pulley but the Haynes manual is based on the older 3 bolt variety, so I'd like to know if this makes any difference ot the job?

Also any general tips or warnings would be nice, thanks.

Are you looking at the correct section of the Haynes manual ? Section 3-10 picture No 5 shows 4 attachment bolts in my edition.
I have not yet changed a water pump, but have changed the cam belt twice & that is in the same area ,the main thing is that the bolts for the jockey pulleys screw into the pump body. also watch the camshaft timing is not lost.
No special does or donts.

I was refering to the bolts that hold the pulley onto the water pump which are not shown in my haynes manual, but the manual I have is for escorts upto 1997 and the engine in my car came out of a T reg escort. Based on this I assumed mine had the newer water pump so not the one shown in the manual as the motorfactor told me theat 1998 was the year they changed over.

Sorry about that, I should have read it a bit more carefully.
One small tip, leave the auxiliary drive belt on untill after you have loosened the pulley bolts, otherwise it's a bit difficult holding the pulley still.
