What do you recommend as a replacement for my Kia Picanto?
I need some advice on what to replace my Kia Picanto with. I have no off street parking (or potential for a charging plug) so need a petrol or hybrid car that is quite compact for parking. My daily commute is approximately 10 miles in relatively heavy traffic. I travel to Devon every 4-6 weeks to look after my parents and also have travelled to Falmouth and Scotland to visit daughters (although that is less frequent). I also have a dog - who I don't like having in the Picanto boot.
I am desperately trying to save up to retire early so cost efficiency is definitely a factor.
I am looking for a reliable, safe, comfortable (for longer journeys) and cost efficient second hand car. I had been thinking about another Kia, a Toyota hybrid or petrol VW or Skoda.

You don't mention your budget, but we would suggest a used Honda Jazz as an ideal car that would suit your needs. It's compact so easy to park, is only available with petrol or hybrid engines depending on which version you go for, and offers excellent interior space for its size so your dog will have plenty of room in the boot. The Jazz also has an excellent reliability record and is cheap to run.

I am looking for small family car but lots seem to have a steep boot lip, which is tricky with a dog jumping in and out. Are there any small cars with false floors/no lip?
When did last non-hybrid petrol Honda Jazz go on sale?
I remember reading one of your columns about the Toyota Yaris. I am looking for a second-hand automatic car and would like to know which are the models to look out for and avoid.
