The key goes in, turns, dash lights come on, try to start, won't turn over. Nothing. Try again (repeat X times) & suddenly it turns and starts!
I think this is the same as a Ford Ranger.
Any ideas?

dmf on the way out shedding its bits?

Into what, I wonder? When the key is turned to the start position and held, there's silence, followed a little while later by a beeper beeping. When the thing *does* start, it's qiute normal - key in, turn to 1st. pos'n, turn to start, brm brm!! It's just that for maybe several times, turning the key to the start position results in absolutely nothing - no engine turning at all )but dash lights on)...

Wouldn't the thing still clunk or whirr when attempting to start? There's silence when the key is turned. The starter does not seem to be turning at all (unless it's *very* quiet indeed)!
