The new petrol 1.6 litre Ecoboost engine is due to be launched in the European market in 2010, it features turbocharging and direct injection technology, available in various outputs.

Expect significant advancement in fuel economy (around 20 per cent better), 15+ per cent lower CO2 emissions and improved performance outputs. The new engine, in various outputs, is likely to replace the current range of 1.6, 1.8 & 2.0 engines throughout the range.

i was getting all carried away then...
.
I used to own a fiesta 1.6 petrol turbo.
.
rs turbo. 140hp 0-60 in 7.9 (same as mk1 mr2 in the time period)
mine was a H reg, made them for about 18months...
before they dropped the 1.8 zetec engine in the fiesta and called it the RS1800.
New price back then would have been 14k.....ouch...this was 1990 add on 17 years of inflation....
.
hmm rare as hens teeth, it was the time when anything with a RS badge was pinched and thrashed.
.
mine was fitted with 2 alarms and a huge disk lock, etc etc..
but got keyed twice in 9 months....(yep sold it was fed up with parking it so close to the pub that i could see it out the window to check it was still there!!!)

The new petrol 1.6 litre Ecoboost will easily out perform the old 8 valve 1.6 turbo as used in the Escort turbo & Fiesta turbo during the 80s & 90s.

The original Fiesta RS turbo was 133 bhp with a top speed of 132 mph.

The current ST fiesta with its 2 litre engine has the same performance as my old cvh RS had. I would guess down to weight. The NEW 1.6 would have to be something amazing.

Engine Size (cc): 1999 cc

Cylinders: 4

Power (bhp/rpm): 150@6000 bhp/rpm

Power (bhp): 150 bhp

Torque: 140@4500 lb/ft

Maximum Speed (mph): 129 mph

Acceleration (0 - 62 mph): 7.9 seconds

The new Focus III, which is due out next year, will have both 1.0 litre EcoBoost and 1.6 litre EcoBoost engines. The 1.0 is expected to offer 89 bhp and 108 bhp, the 1.6 is expected to offer 148 bhp and 178 bhp. Any of these engine configurations will work in the Fiesta.

Also due for the new Focus III is a new range of diesel engines, a 1.6 TDCi giving up to 128 bhp, and a 2.0 litre with 168 bhp and 197 bhp.

Wow, they're impressive figures and would make the Focus a prime contender in my eyes, would have to be the 2.0 TDCi in silly powerful 197 bhp form of course, that would be a current Focus ST killer in most situations! :-)

Yes the performance figures are impressive, also the fuel economy and CO2 figures will be as well.
