My MK IV Golf 1.6 has always pulled ever so slightly to the left, even since new. Front tyre wear seems Ok and even (have covered 24,000 miles). The left-pull is consistent-happens on any road, any speed.
Had steering laser-aligned by VW; they made several minor adjustments but, you guessed it, it still pulls to the left. But driving the car on an area of flat new asphalt car park shows there is no left-pull whatsoever.
So is this a design flaw of the Golf: they are hyper sensitive to road camber?

Get rid of it now, My neighbour has one which has always done this, and it was made in BRAZIL, it is a heap of junk, it is on it's second: Gearbox, Air conditioning, Central locking system, Headlamps and has been back to VW SEVEN times for the Steering to be sorted out.
So have it torched or anything and never buy another VW ever - they are a waste of time

If only the wording of your post were as reliable as a VW :o)

Dave ???
Since 1974 Our family have owned 2x Mk1 Golfs, 1x Mk1 & mk2 Scirocco, 3x Passats, mk1, mk2 and Mk3 1x Camper, 4x Polos, Mk1 & MK2, 4x Jettas - one of which saved my brother's life when he rolled it.
Until recently I would have said that VW made the best cars for the money.
I have 2 neighbours, the one with a Golf - It is certainly made in Brazil, and one with a T reg Passat automatic, both these cars have had lots of problems and VW simply don't want to know.
So I don't quite know what you mean. VW was once synonymous with reliability but now their image is tarnished and their cars are overpriced and can't be depended on.

Marc,
Firstly, don't you remember the punchline to the VW ad "If only everything in life were as reliable as a VW"
Secondly, you failed to spot my smilie :o)

Thirdly, Jeremy Clarkson slagged off the Vectra (as well as all other Vauxhalls, apart from the Agila - he liked the seat configuration)
Didn't stop people from buying them though!!

..have found out that my Golf is indeed made in Brazil; in fact I did some poking around on some websites and found that the Audi TT is made in Hungary. Even the new Audi A4, where the glossy sales brochure states "..Ingolstadt is the spritual home of the Audi A4.." are not just made in Germany but also in Malaysia. What a load of marketing rubbish!
To be fair, I have not had any other problems with my Golf: it never rattles/falls to bits. I would consider another VAG product but it would again have to be an import from the EU as the local UK VW dealers are simply too expensive.
