When I start my 1.8 zetec E petrol engine t8k miles first thing when it is cold weather I notice a rattly/tapping noise that disappears after a couple of minutes or so.
Is this normal ?

Yes hydraulic tappets one or two might be noisy, try a new oil change and filter with engine flush, but ONLY use the correct oil for the car not cheap stuff.

Going by all your other post's your very paranoid, the car is nearly 10 yrs old and done 78k miles it is not going to sound and drive like the day it left the production line.Until it really starts to rattle and becomes noisey all the time just drive it and enjoy it.My focus is half the age of yours and done 7k less it makes a quite rattling noise first thing until warmed up am i concerned no.
